Chiang Mai is the second largest city in Thailand and located in the North. The weather is much cooler, especially in the mornings and evenings. The city is known for outdoor adventure – rafting, bungee jumping, trekking, zip lining, etc.
The old city is surrounded by a moat and used to have a wall as well. There are still remnants of the wall in some areas. I wandered around the old city limits, which took about an hour and fifteen minutes. It was great to just people watch and walk. Most people will rent bicycles or motos to see the town but I prefer my own too feet. I’m lucky enough to have use of them I might as well put them to good use.
It’s Buddhist tradition to bless trees by wrapping the traditional orange cloth around the trunk. This declares the tree sacred and means it cannot be cut down. They make sure to not tie the cloth so tight so that there is room to grow. The trees featured below are Banyan trees by part of the old city wall.
